Today’s Thoughts – 9 November 2020

And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
Newer cars these days come with a pretty nice feature. When the car is running and you stop at a stoplight, some cars will turn their engine off. And when you take your foot off the brake pedal, the car starts back up.
This is to prevent the car from running idly because when the car is running idly, it uses gasoline and there are parts that are moving but the car is not. It puts extra wear and tear on the car when the car is not even doing anything worthwhile – just sitting at the stoplight.
When Christians become idle, it opens the door up to sin. Something must fill our time. Lord willing, service for Christ will fill out time. But when we, as Christians, sit around and do nothing, we can allow the world, the flesh, and the devil to creep in and take control.
There is a definite connection between idleness and sin.
Instead, let us give ourselves wholly to Christ and allow Him to fill our lives with meaningful activities. The widows mentioned in this verse were being supported by the church and taking advantage of that support to not work or devote their lives to service. Instead, they took that time to spread gossip and “speak things which they ought not.”
Let us not be lazy, let us not take advantage of the blessings of God, and let us serve Him with all that we have so we do not become idle Christians.
