Today’s Thoughts – 5 November 2020

But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
Christians are among the most compassionate people in our day and age. We support causes that prick our hearts and give us the desire to help those in need. Yet, even in our own ranks, sometimes, we don’t care for our own.
When a widow of the church has a family that can care for her, the Bible directs the family to care for her instead of the local church. But, here we see a strong and clear statement from the Apostle Paul about neglecting such a call to care for your family member.
Even those who are not Christians or do not hold to a Judeo-Christian worldview care for their own. The Bible says that those who don’t provide or care for their own family are worse than those who are not believers in Jesus Christ.
It goes beyond just widows. This includes your spouse, child, grandchild, siblings, nieces, nephews, parents, grandparents, adopted children, etc. It includes members of your church for they are your spiritual family. We must stay in tune with the cares and needs of those around us, especially our own family.
