Today’s Thoughts – 3 November 2020

Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.
The main point that Paul is making here is that Timothy, and all leaders in the church, perceive the members of the church as members of their family. The way one would respectfully talk with their father should be the same way they should talk with an older man in the church.
Younger men in the church can also have brotherly bonds between them. They should treat the elderly women as they would treat their own mothers. And conduct themselves chastely with the younger women as they would with their own sisters.
This maintains a load of respect towards the church members and gives you the reputation of being a relatable leader in the church. It also helps to keep you from any perception of wrongdoing with any of the members of the church, whether crass with the older men or flirtatious with the younger women.
Let us maintain a holy respect for the members of the church and look on them as our family, for we are all truly in the Family of God.
