Today’s Thoughts – 21 October 2020

One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
As we seek to lead the church in our ministries, we must also think of our homes. If we cannot lead our homes correctly, how are we to lead the church?
For Christians, the church and the home are one.
This verse has two meanings to it. The first has to do with the respect that the children have for their father. Do they listen and obey him? Or do they run ragged and have no respect for what he is saying? Do they respect their father enough to submit to his leadership?
However, there is a secondary meaning to this as well. It has to do with how the father exercises his authority. Is he loud, angry, or violent? Or is he calm and spirit-filled?
The manner of leadership is just as important as the results of leadership. And the home is the training ground for the church. Yet there is much overlap between the two.
