Today’s Thoughts – 19 October 2020

In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
The main point of this passage that I would like to make is how inner beauty will manifest outward beauty. We should not work hours and hours to make ourselves look good on the outside and not spend the same amount of time working on the inside.
Paul mentions many outward dressings and apparel that were most likely the fads of the time that women should not adorn themselves with. They could have even been the styles of the local temple prostitutes. We too must be careful as to the “style” of dress that we adorn ourselves with (men and women).
But this goes deeper than just the outward apparel. What are you dressing your heart with each day? Do you wake up by reading your Bible and praying? Or do you wake up to watch the latest news, sports, or entertainment gossip?
How we dress the heart will ultimately come out by how we dress our bodies. The Godliest women I know are peaceable and quiet, yet at the same time strong and wise. And that has a far more lasting impact on a person than a boisterous and noisy person.
