Today’s Thoughts – 16 October 2020
By T. S. Candee on October 16, 2020 in First Timothy Thoughts
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
One God
When Paul wrote this letter to Timothy, many people believed there were many gods. People in some places of the world today continue to believe in many gods.
There are people in America who have many gods. A god (or an idol) is anything that takes the place of the One True God. There is but one God!
Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: For I am God, and there is none else.
What is it in your life that you are not giving to God? What takes your time and attention away from God, His Word, and service for Him? Give it to God and understand that He is alone the only God.
One Mediator
“…one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”
This is a comforting statement, for in it we see the current ministry of our Savior. It’s a picture of the man Christ Jesus holding God the Father’s hand and holding our hand as we lift our prayers to God. The Bible tells us that Christ makes intercession for us so that our prayers can be understood and accepted by God (Romans 8:34).
Christ brings us together with God in holy communion by reaching down and taking our hand while holding onto God’s hand. It’s a wonderful picture of mediation and intercession.
It is important for you to understand that this is the only way to get to God. In Bible times, there were many priests that the Israelites went to for sacrifices and offerings. But that has passed. Now we go through Christ. He is the way, the truth, the life, and the only way to come to the Father (John 14:6).
One Salvation
The only reason we are able to come to God through our prayers is because of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. He paid the redemptive price as it were so we could be saved.
And this salvation is not for one group of people. It is for everyone – Praise the Lord! But it is only one salvation. There aren’t many ways to come to God, there is only one – believing in Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
It is then our task, to share that saving knowledge with others. We must “speak the truth in Christ.” We must be in Christ to accomplish that. We must have our hearts right and lined up with the Word of God to be able to reach others with the gospel.
