Today’s Thoughts – 17 October 2020

But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for ithem that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

1 Timothy 1:8-11

What is the law for us today? You may ask yourself or another this very question. The law for us today is to show us our need for salvation. Without the law, we cannot recognize our own sinfulness, and thus the reason we need to be saved and the reason we should live a sanctified life.

If you have not experienced salvation yet, the law cannot save you. It can only reveal to you your need for a Savior, Jesus Christ (Galatians 3:24). You cannot work to gain salvation as some teach. You cannot keep the Ten Commandments to achieve salvation. The law only awakens your sense of sin so that you will turn to Christ to wash you white as snow!

Have you done this yet? Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior? You can do it right now!

If you have already turned to Christ and accepted Him into your life, then the law is not a way of attaining higher perfection as a “righteous person.” Now that you are saved, you are no longer under the law – you are set free from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:10-14). Instead, you are in Christ and should walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:13-26).
