And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
The ministry that God has given you is a great ministry. Whether it’s working with children or the elderly, cleaning the church building, security, missions, or preaching. It is a ministry that God has given you to do during your lifetime.
However, if you don’t abide by the rules He has set out or you try to cheat in life, you’ll be disqualified. The image Paul is giving to Timothy here is just that. Run the race, but run it correctly. Don’t cheat, don’t do enough to just get by. Do it the right way, and you’ll get a crown.
In the Olympics, competitors were required to swear that they had diligently trained for the Olympics for 10 months. And if they were found to have not followed the rules, they would be disqualified from the games or have their medals taken away.
In our lives, it is important that we follow God’s rules for life. If we don’t, we will instead allow the world, the flesh, and the devil to take hold and dictate our lives. And worse, we will lose opportunities to serve the Lord and save some souls from hell. Let us instead, follow God’s rules and win those crowns!
