Today’s Thoughts – 30 November 2020

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
We’ve already discussed those who “will” to be rich or greatly desire to be rich in material things that it becomes their God. Now let’s discuss those who are already rich and are Christians.
What God has given us monetarily is for us to enjoy and to use for Him. It is not for us to boast about or be proud of our accomplishments. It is not for us to trust over God Himself. Let us remember that we are nothing and can do nothing without Him. He is the One who gives us good gifts (James 1:17).
He would rather we use our money for His work. He’d rather us distribute it benevolently to the work of our church or to the missionaries sent out and supported by our church. We should partake in these wonderful ministries of the church. Giving back to God what He has given to us can be the most rewarding activity we can take.
And by doing so, we will lay treasure up in heaven (Matt 6:20). We will also lay the foundation for our mansion in Heaven! What we do and don’t do here on Earth has an impact on the treasure and crowns that we will have when we get to Heaven. And remember that those crowns are crowns that we will cast at Jesus’ feet, thanking Him for what He has done in saving us from our sins!
