Today’s Thoughts – 2 December 2020

Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
When you and I got saved, the Holy Spirit came to dwell inside us. Now with the Holy Spirit, we are also granted spiritual gifts. These gifts are such that we must find them and develop them for use in service for God. Everyone has a gift. Some may be teachers, preachers, helpers, soul winners, etc. We just have to find it and develop it.
Sometimes, we can get off track and focus on earthly endeavors. Paul wants to grab your attention here! “Remember,” he says. “Sir up the gift of God,” he commands! Don’t forget the gifts that God has given you. Don’t let that fire inside you die. Instead, set your soul afire, like the song says, in your daily life. Burn it deep within you – let the Holy Spirit build you and make you better in service for God.
We may be controlled by our fears at times to share the gospel with someone or to take a step further into God’s will because we know not what lies ahead. Paul wants to encourage you here that God didn’t give you a spirit of fear. Instead, He gave you the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit gives you power which works, love which cares, and a sound mind which controls. Let that spirit control you instead of a spirit of fear of what comes next.
The Holy Spirit does not leave us when we fail; but He cannot fill us, empower us, and use us if we neglect our spiritual lives.
