Today’s Thoughts – 23 November 2020

Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed. And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.
The Lord wants us to be good workers – whatever our job is. We are to do our best and even above our best to glorify Him. Paul here is telling Timothy to teach and exhort the people at Ephesus that even though they may have an ungodly boss, they are to still give that boss respect and honor in the workplace.
If you have a boss who is an unbeliever, you may have challenges ahead. But, you are to keep working as hard as you can so that you can be a good testimony to your boss and your coworkers. We don’t want to slander God by not giving honor and respect to our boss. That will close any door that was open to presenting the gospel to them.
In verse 2, he talks about Christians having Christian bosses as well. Even though your boss may be a Christian, it doesn’t mean you can treat them without respect or honor. God has placed them in their position and He has placed you in your position. It is the right attitude to give that person the respect the position deserves. And Paul is saying that we should work harder for a Christian boss than for a non-Christian boss.
