Today’s Thoughts – 2 February 2021

For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
We are to turn away from the characteristics listed in the previous verses, but we are also to turn away from other people with those same characteristics. If we allow false teachers into our homes, our families shall certainly pay the price.
These days, it is very easy to have things “creep into [our] houses.” There are shows and movies on TV that promote false doctrine and sin. There is content on social media, websites, and emails that are not lined up with the Word of God. If we are “silly” or “laden with sins”, we will be “led away” into these false teachings.
Firstly, let us be careful what comes into our homes through media and even physically. If we don’t give false teaching any space in our homes, it will be more difficult to be led away into it.
Secondly, we shouldn’t be “laden with sins.” This carries the sense of unresolved sin in a person’s life. We should keep short accounts with God so that we can be right with Him, and He can speak to us. He will show us what is false teaching and what is sin in our lives so we can remove it and be close to Him.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Lastly, we can know the truth! The truth is in the Word of God, not in any media that is false teaching in our homes.
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Those who are led away into the false teaching did not have a solid foundation to stand on, and they were “never able to come to the knowledge of the truth” because they were following untruths.
Thus, we must be careful what we allow in our homes, keep short accounts with God, and focus on His truth in the Word of God so we can stay close to Him and not be led away by our lusts.
