The Pride of Doing

The Pride of Doing

By T. S. Candee on January 31, 2025 in The Power of Prayer

Humility is the first and last attribute of Christ-like religion and the first and last attribute of Christ-like praying. There is no Christ without humility. How graceful and imperative does the attitude of humility become to us! Humility is an unchanging attitude of prayer. Pride sends its poison all through our praying. The same pride infects all our prayers, no matter how beautifully worded they may be.

This lack of humility, this self-applauding, kept the most religious man of Christ’s day from being accepted by God. The same thing will keep us today from being accepted by God.

But many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
